Balance in life is important so, having written a script featuring a cat, I had to write one that at least contained traces of dog. “Parsley” will be directed by Breigh Fouhey, AD/Script supervisor is Donna Botha and it stars Beccy Myers, Anna Burns and Cameron West. DoP is Macca Clark and Sound will be handled by Kevin Tye. Peter Blasdale is going to edit it for us. So all I need to do is organise the location and catering 😉

Cats (no, not that one)
Work is well underway on my next project Called either “9 Lives” or “Cats” (apparently someone has already used that name though). Barry Sangster is Producer with Sarah Connor as 1st AD, Cameron is DoP, Betsy will be on Camera, Pete on Sound and Editing, Beccy Myers is our Director and Torrey will be Technical assistant again. Gayle, and Phil McArdle (a veteran of many ToTs shorts) along with Anna Burns (another ToTs regular) will be my co-actors. Yup I’m taking the plunge, it was pretty inevitable given that the lead part is a grumpy old Scottish guy who hates cats. Shooting dates are currently planned for April 10th/11th. Watch this space!

The Garden – Post
Cam and Pete have finished working their magic on the post-production side so Gayle’s movie “The Garden” will be hitting the big screen at the Top of The South Film Festival this October. I already have three other projects in various states of undress 😉

The Garden

I was lucky enough to be invited to produce Gayle’s Short film “The Garden”. So far I have Acting, Writing, Directing, Music and Animation credits to my name, so this will be a cool addition 😉
We had a Blocking session last night and start filming with a night shoot this evening and a full day shoot tomorrow. We have some great local talent on board with Briegh (who is also Director) and Mike O’Malley acting alongside Gayle. Cameron Ross is DoP, Peter Blasdale is our Sound Engineer and Betsy Blasdale and Torrey Shay will be assisting wherever they are needed. I just need to get the food!
That was the half-a-year that was!
So NZ has come through the first phase of this year’s plague. We just have to wait for the rest of the world to catch up before we can re-open our borders. However there are much worse places to be incarcerated than NZ, and I think at this time contrary to this old song “We DO” now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYvMeT2GC14
Fame!(ish)
2019 was a productive year on the movie-making front for me. I was introduced to the Top of the South (ToTS) Film-makers Collective and produced my first ever live action short movie. “The Morning After” is a 6 minute one-shot, monologue to camera, featuring a young Barmaid and her take on the world after the sudden and unexpected discovery of God by scientists.
